VIDEO: Former Rangers coach DeBoer joins the Sharks

Former Kitchener Rangers head coach Peter DeBoer is headed west.

The 46-year-old was introduced as head coach of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks on Thursday afternoon.

He becomes the eighth head coach of the Sharks. Sharks General Manager, Doug Wilson says DeBoer was actually a candidate for the same job seven years ago.

DeBoer’s first NHL coaching job was with the Florida Panthers. In almost 500 NHL games, his record is 217-200 and 77.

San Jose finished this season 12th in the Western Conference, missing the playoffs by ten points.

DeBoer guided the Kitchener Rangers to a Memorial Cup title in 2003 and a pair of OHL championships (2003, 2008).
