SIU continue to investigate first fatal police shooting in Guelph

More information is coming to light after the shooting death of a 36-year-old man at Guelph General Hospital earlier this week.

Police say this is the first Police shooting fatality in the force’s entire history.

Guelph Police have confirmed to 570 News, the two subject officers being investigated have since returned to work but are presently on modified duties.

SIU Spokesperson, Monica Hudon tells 570 News, their investigation currently surrounds two subject officers and five witness officers.

“The SIU is continuing its probe into what happened earlier this week between police and a 36-year-old man at Guelph General Hospital.”

The incident happened Wednesday in the waiting room of Guelph General Hospital.

There was an interaction between the man and police when the two officers discharged their firearms, the man sustained muliple gunshot wounds.

An autopsy was conducted yesterday at a hospital in Hamilton, those details won’t be released until the SIU completes their investigation.
