Waterloo’s Uptown BIA wants a ho-ho hold on LRT work during Christmas shopping season

The Uptown Business Improvement Area in Waterloo is asking that LRT construction be halted during the Christmas shopping season.

GrandLinq Spokesperson, Avril Fisken, has heard from Uptown Waterloo BIA Executive Director, Patti Brooks, who has asked that LRT construction be stopped during the busy holiday shopping season.

Fisken tells 570 News she understands the Uptown Waterloo BIA’s concern but adds GrandLinq does have a contract agreement with the Region of Waterloo in order to meet set milestones and to ensure the project progresses how it should.

“Our message to the Uptown BIA is that we hear them loud and clear. We understand their concerns around the Christmas shopping season and we are doing what we can, working with the region and the city, to plan a schedule that accommodates both our contract requirements as well as their concerns.”

GrandLinq could face penalties for failure to fulfill the agreement.

Fisken said GrandLinq expects to have its construction schedule for King Street from Erb Street to Union Street prepared by the time they present to the Uptown Waterloo BIA meeting on May 29th.
