National Road Safety Week to focus on motorists and cyclists

The Waterloo Regional Police Service will be keeping an eye out for dangerous drivers as they start the first official day of National Road Safety Week today.

The week focuses on identifying road users, both motorists and cyclists, whose actions risk the safety of others on the road.

Staff Sergeant Jim Strand with the Traffic Branch tells 570 News what you can do to stay safe of the road.

“Be very aware of your surrounds and watch for any risks or any possible hazards that may be approaching. Give yourself plenty of reaction time it’s the best way to avoid any impacts.”

Strand says if you do see someone driving dangerously you should notify the police and get a plate number and driver description so they can take action against them.

As part of National Road Safety Week, police will also be out ensuring cyclists are wearing helmets and are following the rules of the road.
