NatureWatch.ca local organizer encouraging families to reconnect with nature

A professor at Wilfrid Laurier University is calling to the region to get out, and get connected with local wildlife.

NatureWatch.ca is launching an easy-to-use, mobile-friendly website encouraging Canadian families to reconnect with nature.

Robert McLeman, a geography professor and one of the organizers tells us you can use the app while exploring the region.

“If you’re out there in nature, or out there in the park, if you see a frog or a toad you can open up our website on your browser. You can see pictures of all the toads and frogs that are native to Ontario. You can hear their calls, and you can make an identification of the particular frog or toad you are looking at.”

He adds you can enter information into the website, which will combine all data entered so scientists can track different species, the lengths of seasons and other environmental processes.

Started over fifteen years ago, the Canada-wide NatureWatch program includes FrogWatch, PlantWatch, IceWatch and WormWatch with plans for more programs to come.
