Cambridge looks to partner with Conestoga College for sports and recreation complex

The location for a new multi-purpose sports and recreation complex for Cambridge has been determined.

Planners working on the 150-thousand square foot building have decided to partner with Conestoga College.

“They inquired about a partnership with us. We started entering discussions and we agreed to go into partnership with them” says Councillor Frank Monteiro, Chair of the Projects Task Force. “Originally we had put $5 million aside to buy a site. This saves us about $2.5 million dollars.”

He adds the $53-million-dollar sports plex will be built on Conestoga lands near the new campus beside the 401.

Council still needs to approve of the partnership with the College, and they will vote on the official decision in a meeting next Thursday, April 16.
