Plans in the works for multi-purpose sports and recreation complex in Cambridge

The proposed multi-purpose sports and recreation complex in Cambridge is expected to be 150-thousand square feet, with a budget of $53-million.

But that’s about all that’s planned so far.

Vice-chair of the complex and Ward 6 Councillor, Shannon Adshade says they are looking to local residents for their ideas.

“We’re going to be starting to get the public’s input. Public input is going to be very important in the process. I know we’re having at least one meeting a month, and we’re probably going to have different community events and try and get out to the community to get their feedback.”

Pending community input, the proposed multiplex could include ice rinks, swimming pools, a gymnasium, and an indoor walking track.

He says a time line isn’t set up at this point, as they are still in the beginning stages of planning.

However Adshade says they are hoping to have it ready by the end of the council term in 2018.

The total project cost is estimated at approximately $53 million with a building size of approximately 150,000 square feet.
