Blackberry execs launch Score More Baseball bringing Sabermetrics to recreational ball

It’s an app that hopes to help you “Score More”.
Two former Blackberry executives, Brian Zubert and Mike Kirkup, are bringing Sabermetrics to recreation baseball with the new app, Score More Baseball.
It takes the premise of so called, “Moneyball” and allows us to use it, to better our recreation or minor league baseball team.
Nothing changes on our end; we still score the game the same, but Kirkup says instead of paper and pen, we use the app, which then, figures out all the advance statistics.
“The really basic question we ask, is did the person who was just batting go out, or did they go on base. If they went out, how did they go out, and if they went on base, where are they and how did they get there. That’s really the simplicity that drives the entire solution.”
Kirkup says it’s being marketed towards all different levels.
“We’re talking to coaches, we’re talking to leagues, and ultimately associations, so they all kind of ladder up,” says Kirkup. “We’re selling to each one of those different areas, unltimately because we have value for each of the different areas.”
If a coach buys the app, he-or-she pays $50, and the players on their team, will then get the application for free.
Kirkup says they’ve gotten great feedback from the coaches already using Score More Baseball.
“They’ve been telling us, how much easier it makes it for them. How easy it is to track statistics. The really surprising thing we didn’t know when we started out is when you’re running a basbeall team is, one of the challenges you can run into is, those arguments over who bats where, but now you have real data to back that up.”
To download the application it costs 50 dollars for the coach, and players on the club then get it for free.
“If people want to download it, and just test it out and see what it’s like to score a game, they’re welcome to do that, and it’s obviously free, there is a try it button on the bottom,” says Kirkup. “We have a team already set up, and a team already set up, and you can get into scoring it pretty quickly.”
