Elmira about to get sticky, Maple Syrup Festival on Saturday

Maple syrup has made itself not just an industry, but a Canadian tradition and once again you can get a taste at the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival.

This year is the 51st year for the festival, which is run completely on the help of 2,000 volunteers.

Chairperson, Drew McGovern tells 570 News that there are two new additions to this year’s event; one being a pancake run, as well as a Governor General award display.

He says the traditional attractions, like the sugar bush tour will still be happening as well.

“I think we have six or seven buses on the go at all times …they seem to enjoy it and they have the opportunity to buy syrup out there and this year is the perfect year to do it because right now actually, the sap is running.”

McGovern says that things like the sugar bush tour are important to the event, as they want to make sure that it is not only fun, but educational as well.
