We are midway through Fraud Awareness Month and regional police are reminding local merchants to be extra careful when accepting US currency. Investigators have seen a sharp increase in the passing of US counterfeit money locally.
Over the past 10 months this has caused a significant dollar loss to local businesses.
Police says that suspects are purchasing low value food or merchandise with large denominations of the counterfeit bills.
Anyone with information is requested to call Waterloo Regional Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
