2015 budget approved, regional tax increase just below 2.6%

Regional council has finalized the 2015 budget at 2.58%, just slightly higher than the intended target of 2.5%.

The impact to consumers means between $46 and $51 dollars for the average homeowner.

Staff had recommended an increase of 2.73% but council were able to find some savings and trim the increase.

At Wednesday’s budget meeting, council approved a $45,000 start-up grand for the fashion history museum planned for Cambridge

A one time $50,000 grand was also approved for Women’s Crisis Services Waterloo Region. That will go towards assisting the build of Haven House in Cambridge.

Mayor of Woolwich Township, Sandy Shantz, also brought forward a motion to keep rural waste transfer stations open until the end of the year, and that was also approved.
