Special weather statement: 5 to 8-cm of snow, then freezing rain

The afternoon commute could be a messy one.

A special weather statement remains in effect for Waterloo Region and most of southern Ontario.

Environment Canada calls for snow to begin around noon.

It says it will be mixed with ice pellets later in the afternoon and there is the risk of freezing rain late in the evening and overnight.

570 News Weather Specialist John Wilson says we could get anywhere from 5 to 8 centimetres of snow.

He says the mixed bag we are expecting today is a sign spring is approaching, but since winter is still dominating, the precipitation tends to be more ice and snow than straight rain.
