Kitchener-Conestoga MPP to write boards on Friday’s decision to close schools

It was back to school for students at both schools boards today, unlike Friday when boards decided to close schools following freezing cold temperatures.

Friday’s decision took many by surprise including MPP for Kitchener-Conestoga Michael Harris who is writing the board to change the Frigid Temperature Threshold Policy, which was implemented in the Fall.

Harris was a guest on 570’s Midday Show and says there was no reason to close schools.

“Schools should have stayed opened especially on a day like Friday. It was beautiful, it was sunny, the roads were clear so schools should have been opened. I get if it’s a blustery day and officials are saying off the roads, cancel the buses, close the schools but not like that on Friday.”

The policy states that schools would close their doors when the temperature, with the windchill, reaches minus 35 or colder.
