The Ontario government has opted to close all 14 Everest College schools in Ontario effective immediately, including the location in Kitchener on Gaukel Street.
“This morning we were informed by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities that effectively it’s suspending the registration of Everest Colleges in Canada” says Joe Hixon, Everest Spokesman.
Representatives from Everest say it came as a surprise, since they had been working with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities to find the best path forward.
“We were hoping to find a path forward for the students and the staff” says Joe Hixon, Everest Spokesman. “It could have included anything from a sale of the schools to a different operator. So we’re really disappointed that it leaves students and staff in limbo.”
The move affects over 2500 students and nearly 450 staff members.
