11:00 – Family Day

Dave Neufeld, Education Coordinator, Waterloo Region Museum

Ahhhh a February break – for all those who get Monday off from work and school. Ontario celebrated its first ‘Family Day’ on February 18th, 2008. There is lots going on in Waterloo Region – full information can be found on our website, 570news.com. The Waterloo Region Museum is planning to have a few extra family friendly activities going on throughout the day – as well as their ‘Ocean Bound’ exhibit. This exhibit explores the science of watersheds, aquatic animals and oceans – and features fun hands-on science for the whole family.

11:30 – Daughters for Life

Annie Serez, Daughters for Life Laurier co-president and third-year Global Studies student,

Elliot Alder, Daughters for Life Laurier co-president & history student

Gavin Brockett, Associate Professor & Co Co-ordinator, Muslim Studies Option Middle East/Islamic History

Wilfrid Laurier University students are making a difference in the lives of those they have yet to meet. They’ve voted in favour of a student levy (up to 4 dollars per student, per term) that will enable up to 10 students per year from international conflict zones to pursue degrees at Laurier through the International Students Overcoming War Scholarship Fund (ISOW). It was developed by the Daughters for Life Laurier student club in conjunction with Laurier International and has already established a partnership with the Daughters for Life Foundation, which will bring two women from the Middle East to study  there in the fall.
