Paterson dominant again at the Auditorium against Storm

Jake Paterson likes playing at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

“This is a great barn,” said Paterson while waiting to be announced during the Three Stars.

Paterson continued his dominance at home as a member of the Kitchener Rangers last night stopping 49 of 50 shots. The Rangers calmed the Guelph Storm 4-1.

Paterson has made four starts for the Blueshirts on East Ave, and has a Goals Against Average of 1.00 and a Save Percentage of .971, stopping 134 of 138 shots. He’s been named first star in three of those games.

It’s familiar ground – ‘er ice, in this case – to the overage goalie, who was acquired at the deadline from the Saginaw Spirit. He’s always played well in the Memorial Auditorium.

Here are Paterson’s previous appearances at The Aud as a visitor:

Date Saves Shots Result
11-09-14 38 42 Win
09-20-13 52 55 Loss
03-08-13 40 43 Win
02-22-13 45 48 Win

They say to be successful on the penalty kill, your goalie has to be your best player short handed, and he was. The Rangers penalty kill was five-for-five on the night.

Brandon Robinson opened the scoring in the first period. The 19-year-old only played three games last month without earning a point.

Ryan MacInnis continued his excellent play of late. He earned two goals and an assist, giving him 12 points in 13 games in the month of January. Mike Davies bulged the twine for the Rangers fourth marker in the third period.

Storm forward Tyler Bertuzzi played his first game against the Rangers this year without earning at least a point. He was minus-3 on the night and didn’t come out for a first intermission interview.

The Rangers win, paired with the Sarnia Sting loss, moves the Rangers into fifth spot in the Western Conference.

Kitchener hosts the London Knights on Tuesday night at 7p.m. on 570 News with Don Cameron and Mike Farwell.
