Survey: Ontario residents thirsty for change at The Beer Store

Seems Ontarians are brewing for some change at The Beer Store, according to a new poll.

A survey by Mainstreet Technologies finds that 70% of residents don’t believe that changes proposed by The Beer Store go far enough.

“It’s obvious that most Ontarians are not aware of the ownership structure of the Beer Store”, said Quito Maggi, President of Mainstreet Technologies. “It’s very clear once Ontarians learn about the current ownership of the Beer Store they are not happy with the arrangement.”

In recent weeks, The Beer Store has proposed changes that would let smaller craft brewers to sell their products in more stores and would allow them to be part owners in the company.

The poll found 17% of people would like to see sales opened up to corner stores and grocery stores, and almost 1 in 3 would prefer to see the province run The Beer Store like the LCBO.
