Kitchener committee votes to ease food truck rules

Councillors who sit on Kitchener’s Finance Committee voted unanimously to ease the rules for food trucks at their meeting on Monday.

Under the revised rules, food trucks will be able to set up in city parking lots and parks. The trucks will also be allowed to park within ten metres of established restaurants.

The Record says food truck operators, who spoke at the meeting, welcome the changes.

Reuben Salonga, who represents a number of operators, tells the paper they can’t keep applying these antiquated laws, put in place for canteens and ice cream trucks.

Meantime, a survey of downtown Kitchener businesses found 65% were in favour of food trucks, most saying it could enhance one’s experience downtown.
