Sony to close all 14 Canadian stores, cut 90 jobs

Sony Corp. has announced plans to close all 14 of its Canadian stores as it focuses on other areas of its business.

The electronics giant said about 90 employees will be laid off as the stores shut down over the next six to eight weeks.

The company said people will still be able to buy products online and by phone, and it will be in touch with past customers to let them know how to get warranty and technical support in the future.

Also on Thursday, Minneapolis-based Target Corp. said it was ending its money-losing operations in Canada, a move that affects 133 stores and 17,600 employees.
