A month-long initiative aimed at reducing the number of weapons and firearms in the community is showing success.
Waterloo Regional Police say the Firearms and Prohibited Weapons Amnesty Program has seen 96 guns turned in to date.
They’ve also collected 18 weapons/knives, 25 pellet guns/imitation guns, a military ordinance, and over 4,500 rounds of ammunition.
The program encourages people to contact police about firearms that are illegally owned or on longer wanted, and turn them in while there is a limited potential for criminal charges.
The program runs until the end of November.
