OPP urge caution in whiteout conditions this Winter

Another five cm of snow is expected today with many areas experiencing intense whiteout conditions yesterday.

If you find yourself driving in similar conditions, Staff Sergeant John  Mraud with Cambridge OPP says you should pull over, put on your four-ways and wait, but there are few things to do if you decide to continue on.

He says slow down and fully turn on your headlights.  He says this will activate your rear lights and allow cars behind to see you.

Mraud says always drive with at least a half a tank of gas incase you are stuck in a road closure, have a candle and matches, some food and water and a shovel.

Meanwhile, Waterloo region may have broken a temperature record for November 19th after the thermometer hit minus 12 early this morning.

The previous record was minus 11, 60 years ago.
