With this nasty weather, the Out of the Cold shelters become very important.
Just this month, the YWCA of Kitchener-Waterloo opened a new overnight shelter after five churches pulled out of the program this summer.
Elizabeth Clarke with the YWCA says these places are extremely important, especially nights like last.
“…Remember that a lot of the people that are on the street don’t have proper clothes, footwear…They often have medical conditions that make them more vulnerable.”
They’ve been averaging about 21 people a night, but last night they were full.
The shelter offers cots, hot coffee and sandwiches to the homeless.
