Cambridge Council decides against recount of Ward 6

Cambridge City Council has decided against a recount of the election vote in Ward 6.

Cambridge Mayor, Doug Craig had called the meeting after the tight race saw a 20 year incumbent defeated by two votes.

Ward 6 Councillor, Gary Price, was absent from this morning’s vote to avoid a conflict of interest. Price had told 570 News on Wednesday that he respected the election result and would not be asking for a recount.

Officials say they wanted to respect Price’s acceptance of the two vote margin.

“After the final count now, I can assure voters that the result is the result” says Michael Di Lullo, Cambridge City Clerk. “We were just proposing as a way to reassure vote candidates and the electorates, but council is confident in the system that we deployed.”

“He stated publicly all along that he did not want to go along with the recount” adds Di Lullo. “Essentially for the reason being that he accepted the results of the tabulation. I guess council peers acknowledged that and accepted that.”

Newcomer, Shannon Adshade will now officially take over as councillor in Ward 6 next month.
