Confusion for voters at Trinity Village polling station

More trouble for voters in Kitchener, this time at Trinity Village.
Barbara Kains tells 570 News she went to vote and was sent away as the polling station closed at 2pm, not 8 pm – when all other stations are closed.

Program Director at Trinity Village, Maria Menounos tells 570 News the City of Kitchener notified them of the early closure back in September.

“We received a letter from the city on September 22nd confirming that Trinity Village would be appointed as a voting place for our residents only, and the hours that were established for voting were from 10am-2pm.”

City staff notes that this isn’t an unusual practice but as Menounos points out, voter cards and the city’s website say the station would be open until 8pm, causing confusion among voters who were directed to go to there.

Menounos adds there have been a few voters turned away and an alternate polling station was not provided.

On top of that, Menounos says many residents did not received voter cards, and a number of the cards they received were for former residents who have passed away.

“Maybe communicating with the homes and getting a list of names of who currently resides here and getting the current voting cards would make the voting process a lot easier.”
