Canadian consulate in Turkey remains closed as officials await test results

By The Canadian Press

OTTAWA – Canada’s consulate in Istanbul will remain closed Monday as officials await the results from tests of a suspicious yellow powder.

The consulate in Turkey’s largest city was shut down Friday after the facility received a package containing the powder.

Staff members who came into contact with the powder were sent to hospital, though there has been no further information about them.

Similar to packages were also sent to the German, Belgian and American consulates in the city.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says test results won’t be available before Monday, so the consulate will remain closed.

The department says Canadians in the area who require consular assistance should contact the consulate in Ankara.
