K-W Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day Parade underway

One of the major highlights of Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest goes this morning: the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade.

It started at 8:30am at King and Erb in Waterloo and will make its way along King before wrapping up at Madison in Kitchener.

It’s expected some 150,000 people will line the route to take in the dozens of floats, bands and other attractions.

As well, volunteers will be walking along the parade route collecting donations for the FoodBank of Waterloo Region which is in the midst of its fall food drive.

The parade marshals for this year’s event provides a thank you to a pair of local political leaders: Kitchener Mayor Carl Zehr and Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran, who are both leaving politics, will share the honour.

If you are taking in the parade, dress in layers. It is on the chilly side right now, but the temperature is expected to climb to 18 later today.

570 News will have complete coverage with reporters stationed from one end of the route to the other.
