Debate for regional chair gets heated over LRT

Regional Chair Ken Seiling found himself on the hot seat at the first municipal election forum hosted by the Greater K-W Chamber of Commerce.

This one focused on candidates for regional chair and Seiling was forced to defend his record on LRT and the region’s debt load.

Seiling pointed to the fact Moody’s Investors Service has given the region a triple-A credit rating – the highest rating a municipality can receive.

There was also heated debate over Light Rail Transit and whether it was the best option to meet the area’s transportation needs.

Also running for chair are Jay Aissa, Oscar Cole-Arnal, Moira-Sharon Magee, Robert Milligan, Paul Myles and John Wolf.

The chamber hosts another debate later this afternoon for candidates running for mayor of Waterloo.
