Passenger traffic soars at the Region of Waterloo International Airport

Passenger traffic is soaring at the Region of Waterloo International Airport with August setting a new record.

This past month was the busiest on record thanks to the 14, 196 passengers who used the airport for their travelling needs.

Year to date passenger numbers through August increased 8.3 percent to 97, 332.

General Manager Chris Wood says they are expecting between 145 and 150 thousand customers by the end of 2014.

He says these numbers are one of the biggest things they can show other airlines and says the aviation landscape is changing with new ultra low cost airlines becoming very popular.

The Region’s airport, according to Wood, would be a great location for one of these carriers.

A top priority for the airport is finding an airline to re-establish flights to and from Ottawa.
