TV Blog Buzz: ‘Married… With Children’ getting a spin-off?; ‘Homeland’ preview

By The Canadian Press

Much of the “Married… With Children” cast moved on to big things after the controversial comedy went off the air in 1997.

Ed O’Neill landed “Modern Family,” Katey Sagal got a big part in “Sons of Anarchy,” and Christina Applegate has had leading roles in the “Anchorman” movies and the TV series “Up All Night.”

Poor David Faustino, who played the hapless Bud, virtually disappeared post-“Married… With Children.”

But he might just catch a break, finally.

There’s talk that Bud’s character might get a spin-off show and Applegate has hinted something is indeed in the works.

“We’re going to do something with Dave maybe. I don’t know if it will be in character,” she told the E! network.

“But I don’t really know. I don’t know what that’s going to be. I don’t know if I’m allowed to speak on that at all. So I should probably stop talking about it right now!”

The double-length fourth season premiere of “Homeland” is just three weeks away and Showtime has released a pretty revealing two-minute trailer hinting at what’s ahead.

Things appear to be very challenging for Carrie, both personally and professionally.

As alluded to at the end of season 3, she’s struggling with the realities of juggling motherhood and the most demanding of jobs, and has ultimately decided to prioritize work over her baby.

Her reassignment overseas in Istanbul hasn’t gone smoothly. A botched missile strike that killed innocent civilians is breeding dangerous anti-U.S. sentiment. And, as usual, Carrie thinks she’s sniffed out a big conspiracy.

When it was announced that Netflix had signed up Chelsea Handler for her own show on the streaming service, it was assumed they planned to reinvent the traditional talk show.

But Handler says she isn’t even sure the project — which isn’t expected to premiere until 2016 — will really be a talk show at all.

The plan, so far, is to stream three new episodes of the show each week, and get away from the typical talk-show convention of interviewing celebrities.

“We’re just figuring out if we want to do them Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and they come available at a certain time, or if all three episodes become available on Monday and they’re three different subject matters,” Handler tells Entertainment Weekly.

“We’re meeting people and hiring people and figuring out exactly what that is. I don’t mind doing a weekly wrap-up, but I don’t want to do (the talk show format) three times a week. I want to dive with sharks, you know? I want to take HGH and see what it does to my body, and then I wanna go to Gaza…. I want to do heavy things, light things.”
