Area canines hit the water in annual Surf Dogs event

Bingeman’s Splash Park is open for the last time this summer. Well, for beloved pets anyway. It’s the annual Surf Dogs event in support of the KW Humane Society.

As well as the usual swimming and off-leash fun for the pups, this year’s event also features a best costume/best dressed contest as well as a Hang Ten contest; the winner being the dog who stays on a surf board the longest.

Amy Gruber, events manager with the local branch tells 570 News that all proceeds go directly to the KW Humane Society to support their many programs and initiatives.

We’ve opened an onsite animal care clinic, which provides surgeries and medical care to our adoptable pets … the onsite attention reduces the need to transport animals to outside vet clinics thereby reducing the stress by moving animals from site to site and the recuperation time is reduced.

The fun starts at 1 p.m. The cost is $10 for dogs, and free for humans.
