Local service connects residents with mental health, addiction & crisis services

One phone number is now available for people to call – where they can access mental health, crisis and addiction services in Waterloo Region.

The service, Here 24/7, was launched in April. The service connects with 12 local agencies that can provided assistance.

It also offers drop in locations in Waterloo Region and Wellington-Dufferin.

Spokesperson for the local chapters of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Andy Best says they were surprised by the response.

“We were expecting about 80 calls and walk-ins a day. We have consistently received about 400 a day. We were totally overwhelmed by the demand and are since catching up. We’ve got 10 new staff coming on to help us meet the demand.”

That would bring the number of employees to 40.

If in need of a mental health, addiction or crisis services, the number to call is: 1 844 437 3247.
