Cambridge man runs for Mayor; lists Bridges homeless shelter as address

A review is currently underway into a Cambridge Mayoral hopeful.

Paul Tavares is one of four people who have filed their nomination papers.

City Clerk, Michael Di Lullo tells 570 News — under the Municipal Elections Act — certain criteria needs to be met.

“In that declaration, the candidate is declaring that they are a Canadian citizen, they are a resident of the city they want to run in. That means they must be an owner or tenant of land in that municipality.”

Tavares’ registered address is that of The Bridges, a homeless shelter in Galt.

Di Lullo says Tavares is aware of the requirements and is making plans to relocate.

He has until September 12th to provide the proper information.

570 News was not able to reach Tavares for comment.
