Kitchener to review funding relationship with Centre in the Square

A revamped mission statement, along with bridging the relationship between the Centre in the Square and the KW Symphony is on the docket.

This is following a special city council meeting that was called after the venue reported a $1.5 million deficit for 2013.

Kitchener Mayor Carl Zehr tells 570 News that the city has asked council to start reviewing and making the by-law changes that would reduce the presence of the City on the Centre in the Square board.

We’d still have that accountability, but one of the points that the consultant made in his report was that there was probably too much discussion by the board and members of council on some of the management issues, because they are not part of the management of the organization.”

Zehr says that this decision was not unanimous and would bring the current board presence of three councilors and the mayor down to the mayor and one city councilor.
