LRT work starts today

Streets in Kitchener and Waterloo will be torn up as construction gets underway this week on the Light Rail Transit project.

The region says work will take place at seven sites in Waterloo by the end of the year. No tracks for the system will be laid this year, with most prep work being done.

In Cambridge – crews start work today on a future ION stop on Hespeler at Pinebush and Eagle. That construction is expected to be done by October.

In Waterloo – work will stop traffic on Caroline Street between Erb and Allen and on Allen from Caroline to King beginning
September 8th.

In Kitchener – crews will be doing work at Borden and Charles to the CN railway tracks. That will start on or about September 22nd.

The entire project is slated to be complete by 2017.
