Local rally held to raise awareness on violence in Gaza

Gaza officials say at least 119 Palestinians were killed in Gaza Thursday, making it the bloodiest day yet in the 18-day war between Israel and Hamas.

Locally, 2-3 hundred people gathered Friday night to raise awareness about the seemingly never ending violence.

The group, Students for Palestinian Rights hosted the event.

Spokesperson Abdurrahman Muni tells 570 News their main goal is to inform the local community about what is going on.

“Through that awareness perhaps we can make progress towards resolving this conflict as a global community and reach a peaceful solution in the end.”

He adds this is an issue that affects many in Waterloo Region.

“There are countless cases of Palestinians living here in the heart of Waterloo, Ontario who have family members that are living the reality of this conflict every day.”

Muni says awareness is the first step to taking action and hopes many are encouraged to become more educated about these issues in the Middle East.

More info can be found on the group’s Facebook page.
