Tropical depression heading west after forming over the Atlantic, expected to degenerate

By The Associated Press

MIAMI – A tropical depression is moving west in the Atlantic and is expected to degenerate over the next couple of days.

The depression’s maximum sustained winds late Tuesday were 35 mph (55 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says little change in strength is expected Wednesday, but the depression is forecast to degenerate into a trough of low pressure by Thursday.

The depression is centred about 675 miles (1,090 kilometres) east of the Lesser Antilles and is moving west at about 18 mph (30 kph).
