Guelph prepares to lock out Transit workers

The city of Guelph is preparing to lock out Transit workers on July 14th.

Overwhelming support against the latest offer was displayed yesterday, when 94% of workers voted against the city’s latest offer.

The City says it has exhausted all traditional negotiation options, and has decided to lock out the 205 members of ATU Local 1189 and suspend service as of midnight Monday morning.

The workers have been without a contract for over a year, and have been in talks over the past three weeks.

Officials say they’re working on a contingency plan that would help riders as Guelph Transit carries an estimated twenty thousand riders every day.

Mobility Service will continue for pre-booked medical appointments during this labour disruption.

A media conference is planned for this morning where more information is expected to be released.
