NHL players with local ties headed to conference finals

Three players with connections to Kitchener are moving on to the NHL’s final four.

Both the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks advanced with 2-1 wins last night in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Rangers beating Pittsburgh in seven and Chicago eliminating Minnesota in six games.

New York has former Kitchener Rangers defenceman John Moore and Kitchener native Kevin Klein.

Jeremy Morin, also a former Kitchener Ranger, is on Chicago’s roster.

New York will face either Montreal or Boston in the Eastern Conference Final, Game 7 of that series will be decided tonight.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks will face Anaheim or Los Angeles in the Western Conference Final. The Ducks can finish off the Kings in six games with a win tonight. Former Kitchener Rangers goalie John Gibson has been stealing the show in that one. Gibson is 2 and 0 in his NHL playoff debut.
