Police say it’s a reminder about water safety after a 52-year-old Waterloo man was rescued from Norfolk County waters Friday night.

This after they rescued a man off the shores of Long Point after he went canoeing and his canoe tipped.

The man’s family called 9-1-1.

The man was in the water for about half an hour before he was rescued by fire fighters.

He was taken to the hospital and was treated for hypothermia, and has now been sent home.

Police are asking anyone planning to go on the water to wear a special cold water suit, and ensure you have the proper safety gear.
