Man faces dangerous driving and failing to stop for police charges after pursuit Friday night

Dangerous driving and failing to stop for police charges were laid on a 31-year-old man in Kitchener last night after joint attempts to stop a red minivan.

Sgt. Kyle Lambert tells 570 News that police attempted to stop the van on King Street East for suspected impaired driving. The van was driving erratically and at one point began to reverse into the cruiser of the officer attempting to pull him over.

Another officer had joined in attempts to stop the vehicle and was sideswiped by the van.

A suspect apprehension pursuit was briefly initiated but discontinued for public safety. Later an unmarked police car was used to strategically follow the vehicle at safer speeds.

Tires were deflated using a tire deflation device at Bleams and Strasburg in Kitchener.
