Kitchener woman pleads guilty to poisoning kids at unlicensed daycare

A guilty plea in a Kitchener court Wednesday from the woman who ran and unlicensed daycare in the city and poisoned several children in her care.

32 year old Christine Allen was accused of poisoning eight children and one adult with eye drops and plead guilty to four counts of administering a noxious substance with intent to cause bodily harm.

It was a joint proposed resolution by the Crown and defence.

She was sentenced to six years in prison and with time served she is left with almost five years.

Allen ran her home daycare in Kitchener from 2009 to 2011 on Millwood Crescent with police saying some of the victims were in her care and others were not.

They were all from the Kitchener and Guelph area.

Police said the victims were given an over-the-counter eye care product containing a substance that if ingested can cause abnormal drowsiness, low blood pressure, respiratory problems and decreased heart rates, especially in young children.

One infant suffered permanent mental and physical damage.
