Transportation Minister confident opposition will support transit funding plan

Waterloo Region already has an LRT project on the go – all day, two way GO train service was recently announced – and now – another commitment to transit and transportation in the province. Yesterday, the governing Liberals vowed to invest 29 billion dollars, about 15 billion to the GTA and Hamilton area with the rest distributed across Ontario over a ten year period.

Premier Kathleen Wynne has said that the government will not increase the tax on gasoline, HST, or personal income taxes on low- and middle-income earners.

Glen Murray, Ontario’s Minister of Transportation spoke to 570 News about the spending plan – which needs support from one of the opposition parties to pass.

“I’m pretty confident that we’re going to get support from at least one of those other parties. I think that this is what people want – and if the Conservatives or the New Democrats will not join us to do the things that Ontarians want, to improve their quality of life – then our other partner will be the public. The public will have the chance to make that decision in their general election.”

The Liberal Government will table the budget on May 1st.
