KENORA, Ont. – Provincial police say a 16-year-old northwestern Ontario boy has been charged in a sexting investigation.

Police say their probe began Sunday after sexually explicit photographs of a 17-year-old girl were found on an electronic device.

Police allege the 16-year-old Kenora youth distributed a sexually explicit photo.

The boy is to appear in court in Kenora on Jan. 28 facing a charge of distribution of child pornography.

Police note that the creation and sending of nude photographs of anyone under the age of 18 is considered child pornography under the Criminal Code of Canada.

Sexting refers to the transmission of sexually-related text or images from one mobile device to another.
