Injuries piling up for Rangers who visit Petes tonight

The Ontario Hockey League has served up a ten game suspension to Guelph Storm forward Robby Fabbri for a check to the head of Kitchener Rangers defenceman Evan McEneny.

During a game on Friday November 1st at the Sleeman Centre, McEneny suffered a concussion on the play and did not dress against the Mississauga Steelheads on November 3rd, and will not accompany the team for their eastern road swing starting tonight in Peterborough. At practice Rangers head coach Troy Smith said McEneny is being re-evaluated on a daily basis.

In the meantime, the Rangers have called up Kitchener Dutchmen defenceman Logan Schmidt in McEneny’s absence. Schmidt has played 11 games for the Dutchmen this season recording 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists). He will make his eighth appearance for the East Avenue Blue tonight against the Petes.

Still on the injury front, Rangers defenceman Dmitrii Sergeev is out with a hip injury and will not be on the bus this weekend. The first round, 23rd overall pick in the 2013 CHL Import Draft last played on October 25th at the Aud in a 5-3 loss at the hands of the Windsor Spitfires.

Forward Ben Thomson who left during the game against the Steelheads last Sunday is out with an ankle injury and is not expected to play tonight, however, the New Jersey Devil’s fourth round draft pick will travel east with the team.

The team has also called up Mark Bzowey from the Oakville Blades of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. Last season Bzowey recorded 30 goals and 43 assists in 65 games with the Oakville Rangers Minor Midget program and this season has seven points in 15 games with the Oakville Blades. Bzowey was the Rangers’ eighth round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection.

The Rangers have dropped six straight games in which they have been outscored by a 30 to 12 margin. Their last win came at home against the London Knights on October 18th. The team will play in Peterborough tonight, in Kingston on Friday night, in Ottawa on Sunday afternoon and in Sarnia this coming Thursday before coming back home on Friday November 15th when the Owen Sound Attack visit the Aud.

The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. tonight on 570 News.
