Kitchener Rangers blueliner Ben Fanelli is this season’s recipient of the Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy.

The trophy is awarded annually to the OHL’s Humanitarian of the Year.

The 20-year-old becomes the first member of the Rangers’ organization to earn the league award through his tireless efforts in raising funds and awareness for head injuries through Head Strong, the initiative he created in March 2011.

To date, $18,000 has been raised for the Brain Injury Association of Canada and other beneficiaries.

“It is an honour to receive an award that shows the importance of putting in the effort not only on the ice and at the rink, but in our community,” Fanelli said.
