Ontario’s Education Minister expects to see more public elementary teachers resume extracurricular activities after March Break.
Guelph MPP Liz Sandals tells the Toronto Star she’s not predicting when the Elementary Teachers Federation will lift its ban but says in talks with individual teachers she gets the sense more of them want to get back to coaching sports teams and clubs because of their relationships with students and parents.
Over the past week, two elementary teachers have gone public about their frustration with the union’s ban.
Most public schools have been without extracurriculars since September in a battle with the provincial government.
The public high school teachers union has ended its boycott.

So, the Toronto Star reports that two teachers are going to resume doing extra-curricular activities. That is not a flood of teachers. Most teachers will still take a pause until there is an agreed contract between the teachers and their school boards. If an agreed contract doesn’t happen until September 2014, that is when teachers may resume their extra-curricular activities.
