LRT Final Three

It’s down to three companies in the running for the Regions Light Rail Transit consortium.

GrandLinq, Kitchener Waterloo Cambridge Transit Partners and TriCity Transit System are the finalists.

Regional councillor with the City of Waterloo Sean Strickland tells 570 News, the great thing with these three is there’s a local presence, “The other thing is, these three finalists are going to be holding a trade fair in the next few months, where local businesses will have the opportunity to showcase their wares to the three finalists and get an opportunity to possibly bid on sub-contracting aspects.”

The three companies, according to Strickland, are also quite different, “And this is one of the beauties of the RFP approach. As the owners, the Region of Waterloo, we have the opportunity to work with all three of these finalists to develop what we think will be the most successful model for building our LRT.”

“Each of those different consortia have National, International experience in design, build, finance and operating and maintaining LRT systems. I couldn’t be more pleased with the calibre and quality of all the submissions, but more importantly, of the submissions of these three finalists.”

The three finalists will now work with the Region on three separate plans.

Regional officials expect to make a final decision on a company in April of 2014.
