Ashley Smith’s mother testifies at inquiry for second straight day

For a second straight day, Ashley Smith’s mother has testified at the coroner’s inquest into the death of her daughter.

Coralee Smith told the inquiry this morning she visited Ashley at a federal women’s prison in Nova Scotia in August, 2007.  She said it was the last time she saw her daughter alive.  “She had mentioned, she said ‘oh, mom, my skin is all loose.  I asked them after the visit was over, if they were giving her drugs, or what was wrong with her, and they said ‘nothing’…..”

Ashley died exactly two months later, in her cell at the Kitchener women’s prison after strangling herself to death while guards looked on.
