Southern Ontario drivers who rushed to accommodate new driving laws in Florida are in for a pleasant surprise.

The South Central Ontario chapter of the Canadian Automobile Association says it’s prepared to offer refunds to those who bought an international driving permit earlier this week.

Many Canadians rushed to buy the permits after learning the state of Florida was requiring them for foreign drivers, including those using rental cars.

The state has since announced it’s reconsidering the law.

The CAA says people who bought a permit on Feb. 13 or 14 at a location in South Central Ontario have a month in which to claim their refund.

The national office of the CAA says it’s up to each individual chapter to set a refund policy.
