Last day of teacher strikes, for now

It’s back to school today for hundreds of thousands of public elementary school students across southern Ontario, including those in Waterloo Region.

Super Tuesday, as it was dubbed, was a one-day walkout involving teachers with eight school boards, and was in protest of the McGuinty government’s Bill 115.

The final rotating strikes are slated for today in a number of other regions.

However, Elementary Teachers’ Federation President Sam Hammond warns of another mass walkout – in January.

He says it will be a day of protest, much like those held in the 1990’s.
